Shooting incident ..

Recommended Posts

Hillsborough is NOT a bad area at all and I can't believe someone compared it to Page hall!!!! I think not....

The centre is rough on Friday and Saturday nights but then it has been for the past 20+ yrs so I'm not sure why all of a sudden people are going on about it...

As for whoever mentioned Winn Gardens!!! That is not Hillsborough.

As for the masons pub, its a complete dive and full of scruffy alcoholics and drug takers.. I'm not at all surprised someone has gone in there shooting off! I don't agree with it... but I am not surprised

I have lived in the centre of Hillsborough for a couple of years, it is a dump. Our road is always covered with dog muck its disgusting. we are frequently woken in the night by people arguing and fighting on our road.

My husbands car has been broken in to and vandalised on several occasions.

I wish I could move :(

Where do you live? Because this sounds pretty alien to me and I am in Hillsborough. If you live on Taplin Road or one of the direct side-streets between there and Holme Lane I can sort of understand where you are coming from, but other than that I don't recognise your comments at all.

Hillsborough and the surrounding districts were like a big friendly village up to recent years, lots of interesting independent outlets and two minutes from beautiful parks and countryside

I haven't got the reason why it started going downhill but it happened several years ago and it shows no sign of recovering.

Sorry Rossy, but you are way off the mark here. Hillsborough is still a brilliant place to live. There is no doubt the pubs either side of the Don are not brilliant, in fact, I went into a few when I first moved here and thought I made a horrendous mistake. Living near those pubs, as I presume DaisyBoo does, is not a pleasant experience, but then it never is nice to live near a group of pubs in any place. A friend of mine moved from Ecclesall Road pretty sharpish after he realised the error of his ways, would you say the area around there has gone "downhill"?

In my experience, certainly the last couple of years, Hillsborough is beginning to climb up again. The shops have survived the worst of the crash and there has been investment in the area, from Hillsborough Corner to the old Coop to the Sainsbury's to Kilner Way and plenty of land along Penistone Road. Surely a sign that business believes that there is something right around here.

Another good sign is that the housing market is definitely on the move again - houseprices for S6 are not far off S8, again, not a place people would associate with going downhill.

So, to put this whole silly discussion to an end: An incident occurred, it is not symptomatic, stop talking nonsense :)

May I ask how long have you lived in the area Tim?

Then maybe we are at cross purposes my friend, before then Hillsboro had it's own decorating shops as well as shoe shops and lots of specialist clothing shops along with a district post office and non restrictive parking.

I know that it's a while ago now but the Supertram and the restrictions it brought started the downhill slide rather than boost the area.

We had family there and visited the local shops regularly and the growth of charity shops moving into shops left empty by long established traders was very noticeable.

I appreciate that Rossy, but really, that is irrelevant, times move on. The people I know that have lived here a long time can be a bit moany about things, but then people like us who have moved here in the last decade or so have chosen it for specific reasons, and those reasons still hold.

Nice independent shops would be ace, but the sad truth is that they are dead almost everywhere.

I've lived in Hillsborough for over 15yrs and before that I lived in Stannington, so a stone throw up the hill.. Hillsborough is a lovely area with lovely residents.

Yes I think the shops could be better and I don't think we need ANOTHER charity shop popping up but all in all it really isn't a bad area and you very rarely see that much trouble considering the reputation the central pubs have given the place.

But what people need to realise also is that the folk that descend onto Hillsborough for the weekend nightlife don't actually reside in Hillsborough!

I lived in Hillsborough on Wynyard Rd from 1998 to 2005, in that time I was burgled, I had the washing pinched off the line, the petrol pipe cut and syphoned off, my scooter was pinched and the car was nicked 3 times, I even removed the ht leads on the last occasion so they brought there own to pinch it, turned up on the cross every time. I never had any bother in the pubs though.
