IDS-free council house if tenants work for a year

Recommended Posts

Mr Duncan Smith has no idea how hard people work and strive to buy a home. I agree that this is a real poke in the eye for many people.

25 years work (at least) for most of us to own our homes outright. Some people pay rent all their life and own nothing.

1 years rent paid and get a free house worth £xxx's - barmy.

Its awful. Im sure there are many people here on SF that have struggled to buy their homes, and equally the same amount who may have paid huge amounts of rent on their council properties. How this is going to serve the population as being fair, I do not know.

'Iain Duncan Smith, the work and pensions secretary, is pushing for a pledge to “gift” tenants their council home after a year in work to be included in the Tory manifesto.'

Wow that's great and another kick in the teeth for all of us who have worked dam hard to provide a roof over our heads, without this stupid incentive. How about if you don't have a job after 12mths you can forget any benifits.

IDS has a somewhat ' interesting ' background, his claim to educational qualifications owes more to imagination than fact.

Yes, I know, I was as shocked as you, a politician that is economical with the truth.

Never saw that one coming, gobsmacked is what I am! :o

Excellent idea from a great minister.

Whats wrong with giving someone an incentive in life? If someone has been feckless in their youth but have changed, have decided to be a contributor rather than a dependent good luck to them.

Great idea.

Well that's todays nominee for the most stupid response.

With the exception of a bit of slack grammar and punctuation, I'd say that you are 100% correct.

Surely he must have gained qualifications somewhere to have been awarded a place at Sandhurst and subsequently been commissioned. Very strange.

Even Mrs Thatcher only sold them at half price.

IDS is a madman. He'd be right at home in UKIP.

Perhaps if they paid 5 years rent instead of 1, not really any cheaper than a mortgage. Only people with low maintenance could apply, and the house is well maintained.
