stuartmoss
Can anyone help? I'm afraid the effects of old age and other influences have robbed my brain cells of some memories of the club and rave scene in Sheffield in the early 1990s. 25 years later I want to reflect on this in a piece of writing but I can't remember the essential details. To my mind the rave and club scenes in Sheffield grew separately with different target audiences up to a point. The rave scene was much more 'indie' and the club scene was frequented by the 'beautiful people'. They used different venues and were promoted by different people, often sniping at each other in promo materials when larger events were run against each other. I remember one instance of ravers being referred to as clubbers with 'a dog on a string'. At some point the hatchet was buried and the two cultures collided on ecstasy fuelled dance floors, or at least that's how I remember it, and the scene became one scene, which eventually was watered down over time into commercial clubbing. My questions are simply: 1. Does anyone remember the names of the rival club events and promoters? 2. What were the key venues called? 3. Can anyone provide a timeline? I'm thinking 1990-1994 or thereabouts? Cheers!
crookedspire
Not sure if this what you are looking for?, but Niche nightclub was a spin off rave later Bassline came in. I used go to Sidney Street one in the late 1990s untill it closed in 2005. I know there was outdoor raves down Attercliffe way odd times.
