The Oil Man
Looking at the recent poor response from a first responder outside a UK hospital, are they up to the job and should we have better trained para medics? I know some response is better than no response but I think most of them need more training.

Any link to an article about it so we know more detail? ---------- Post added 14-02-2015 at 03:48 ---------- Really! Don't they do 2 yrs training at Uni then lots more on job training? Depends what you mean by first responder. A Community First responder will do about 26 hours of training and thats all, with a refresher every 6 months. A paramedic in a fast response car will do considerably more training.
aliceBB
Community First Responders are unpaid volunteers who are trained to attend emergencies locally and administer oxygen, perform CPR or use a defibrillator in cases where it is suspected the patient my be suffering a heart attack or other life-threatening condition. In rural areas they are often able to get to the patient sooner than an ambulance, and this can mean a life saved. Obviously, as soon as the ambulance arrives or if the ambulance gets there first, the paramedics will deal with the emergency. CFRs have to train on a continuous basis and be reassessed regularly. What makes you ask the question,"Are they up for the job?" and "Should we have better trained" Your comment, "I think most of them need more training" Is based upon what? Please explain as I really would like to know more
SportsTrophy
Not sure if this is the same story as this was a paramedic not a first responder http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/cctv-shows-paramedic-standing-near-man-and-doing-nothing-as-he-lay-dying-of-a-heart-attack-by-the-doors-of-a-hospital-ae-unit-10040514.html
whitewitch
We have some fantastic paramedics who work under stressful conditions, but just like any job there is always someone who is in the wrong kind of job, I read the article on which I think your talking about & I personally think he is one of those people, dont let one idiotic/heartless individual slate all the hard work our paramedics do
newcomer01
One man looking on to another on the floor hardly constitutes lack of training does it!!!. The onlooking guy got it so wrong and now has to live with that for life:huh:
