HABITAT store on the Moor early 80's

Which shop now occupies what used to be HABITAT, which was only there for a few years in the early to mid 80's.

habitat was in the old Robert's Brothers Store,

 

Currently its half Mark-one clothing store, half a "closing-down, -last-two-weeks-of-sale " for six months sort of store.

Yep it is indeed and they have been doing their best over their 'final two weeks' to keep the Moor warm with that 3 bar solar fireplace thingy in the doorway

 

I remember when Habitat opened it seemed right posh, infact didn't it become a Hamleys toy shop or did i dream that!

Hamley's was next door to Habitat. Might not have been exactly next door, but it was close.

 

Habitat and Hamley's on the Moor. You're right, it does sound like a particularly surreal dream!

I went to Nottingham 4 years ago and there was a Habitat there, I bought a fantastic picture! A very very posh and expensive shop. Its a chain company isnt it? I loved it!

I read where the Habitat shop was closed down on The Moor because it didnt do enough business. Apparantly we were not sophisticated enough to be habitat customers.

I don't think it was so much that we weren't sophisticated enough, more that most Sheffielders were just too conscious of the value of a tanner to pay the sophisticated prices

Im sure Habitat is still going strong! Its a very expensive housing goods store If it is still wat is was a few years ago! Abit like House of Frazer I suppose.

I still have a angle poise (?) lamp that my big sister bought at Habitat. Good as new it is.
