charhenser
Hi everyone! Could anyone recommend a hypnotherapist in Sheffield who could help me with passing my driving test/ overcoming nerves and anxiety/ remembering how to do things I can do in all my lessons that seem to dissolve like sherbet from my brain in exam conditions!? Thanks in advance Charlotte
GormanD
If you need hypnotherapy please dont do it. Anyone that nervous is someone i dont want to share a road with.
Bottletop
Does this mean you'll need hypnotherapy ever time you drive after passing your test too!? I really hope 'exam conditions' don't occur at any time other than during your exam.
charhenser
To be fair to me I only fail on my reverse round a corner. I only got 3 minors on my first test and four on my second. (I have only taken two) I can do the manoeuvre perfectly during lessons, however I seem to flunk it due to nerves each time on test. I am not dangerous. I have never caused any danger to any other road user during my lessons or a test. I would just like something to help me remember and be calm during my exam. I have used hypnosis before for an unrelated anxiety issue and found it helpful. Why is that so wrong?

You could possibly be licensed to drive a car, a big heavy dangerous machine that could kill if you suddenly have an attack of anxiety at the wrong time. Your car could be full of kids or you could hit a car full of kids. How are you going to feel when the buck stops with you and the dual controls are a distant memory? No disrespect intended but this is serious.
geared
I agree (kind of) you shouldn't muck around with hypnotheraphy. You can keep taking tests and lessons, you should overcome your anxiety naturally. If not, then don't get behind the wheel - for goodness sake. If you think taking a test is a nervous experience, then just wait until you find yourself driving to an unfamiliar place, in morning rush hour. The last thing anyone wants is someone to bottle it, mash the accelerator and plough through an unsuspecting cyclist or pedestrian who happens to be in their way. whatkatydid
Yup I had the same problem. Took 5 tests about 25 years ago, everyone thought I'd pass first time - I didn't and each time I was more and more stressed when the examiner got in the car. I give it up as a bad job. I went back to lessons with my bosses husband who brought me up near modern standard before he retired. I took a test and was like jelly, made a real mess of it. Then I met Alan from Horizon who is brilliant instructor and so that I could deal with my emotions during the test I went to Richard Hennesy richard@sheffield-hypnosis.co.uk. Age 50 I passed. I am confident, relaxed driver in all weathers in heavy traffic and motorways. Someone once said to me passing your test was the best gift you could give your self - it is and if it take a bit of extra time and cash to get there, rather than be a good driver who can't pass a test, cos that is really expensive

Just take it again after doing a little more practice on the reverse round a corner, which you may not even get on your next test, and stop thinking of it as an exam, its a drive with someone different and failing isn't the end of the world. PositivHypno
Anxiety is a really effective treatment for hypnosis. I use it to treat all performance issues, from driving tests, exams, flying phobias, and public speaking. Once you can manage your anxiety life moves on the way you want. Follow the link on my signature and then read the success stories to find out more about how much people move on from their anxiety. There are lots of hypnotherapists in Sheffield so hunt out as much info as you can and find the right person for you. I specialist in anxiety and addictive behaviours and used it on myself to lose 100lbs (check out the pics on the website), it's not true that you have to use it every time to maintain the benefits. I do not have to hypnotise myself to stay a healthy weight. Enjoy the next test, and enjoy driving safely. Dave
