Yes. In fact it is even more of a reason than we are due. if he chooses to not sing the national anthem, that is up to him. he doesn't/shouldn't have to explain to anyone. A part of life in the UK is that we are not forced to sing the national anthem. in my opinion that is something we should be proud of and should continue to keep it that way. PeteMorris
From the times I've seen rugby, football, or any other type of tournament, it's clearly apparent, that a good portion of them don't sing the national anthem simply because they don't know it!.... geared
Plenty of footballers don't do it when they're on international duty.
alchresearch
Depends which rugby team. The Welsh sing with pride.

Yes, absolutely. I won't sing the national anthem either, as a republican atheist 'god save the queen' is a pretty silly sentiment in my book. InigoMontoya
The (UK) national anthem shouldn't be sung anyway. Debrett's is quite clear on this matter, and only a fearsome oik would think to sing it out loud.

I'm sure most footballers and rugby and cricket players all have a copy of Dubrett's to hand

(In any case, outwith the WC, the England cricket team emerge to "Jerusalem", not GStQ)
