Michael Sheen Tears Into NHS Cuts In Blistering Speech

Recommended Posts

And yet the overall budget spending has remained fairly static.

It is amazing that huge cuts have not had to be made considering the state of the finances left by the last Labour government.

"Sorry there's no money left" was the note left by them - as if it was funny that they'd completely fouled up the country.

Backtracking much? And of course, if it remains static, then it is a cut in real terms. If it remains static in face of spiralling immigration and increasing social deprivation, then it is no superficial cut either.

Our NHS is not safe in the hands of the Tories. It is safer in the hands of Labour, but still not safe enough. There needs to be a sea change.

This next election will be the make or break of the NHS. If the Tories get in, we will see it sold from under our feet. Private health care in the USA has been a social disaster and a moral shame for the US - which has been recognised in recent years.

It is time that a political party with a 100% commitment to prioritising the NHS stood up. Our NHS is NOT for sale.

Oh, and by the way, exactly the same is going on in education now - schools are facing huge shortfalls in real terms, as their costs are spiralling but their budgets in effect are being cut.

Don't worry about it Ron. The cuts only affect the poor. You can put your head back into the sand and go to sleep again ;)

But the poor often aren't the brightest. Recent visits to hospital have seen Doctors telling patients that smoking and drinking too much is bad for them.

Booze is cheaper, pound shops stock high sugar rubbish and people are living longer. That is the strain on the NHS.

Why is cheap booze and cheap convenience foods so popular?

Because a) people can't afford to eat as well as they should - check out the food programmes - trained chefs couldn't do it on the budgets they were given - and even with cupboards well stocked with the staples first!

b) those that are working are working for a pittance so both parents are out working, some with two or more jobs, often at different times, so family sit down meals are out, its often a case of grab the quickest and time to do daily fresh shops are out

c) stress - often down to a or b

To be fair, we're not likely to be able to disprove your theory about the poor not being the brightest, so long as they vote Tory governments in that ensure that they will never get the same opportunities as their rich peers.

Rubbish. Don't make excuses. The Government even produce free booklets advising people how to eat and drink properly.

Take a look at the people next time you go to hospital - smokers everywhere.

Pound shops stock cheap things. Cheap things are full of sugar. The strain on the NHS is the fat, gout ridden, coca in sniffin, foreign millionaires, who don't pay tax and crash their expensive cars.

here you go ...NHS net expenditure (resource plus capital, minus depreciation) has increased from £64.173 billion in 2003/04 to £109.721bn in 2013/14. Planned expenditure for 2014/15 is £113.035bn.

Not a stupid post.

The smell of booze and smoke was overwhelming last time I went to a hospital.

The Doctors come round and look at the patient. After a few minutes they ask the patient whether they smoke or drink. Patient responds with odd pint and fag, to which partner then tells the truth that they are on 5 pints and 20 fags a day. Doctor then reminds patient that they promised last time they were in to cut down on the fags and booze. Patient is treated, to be probably seen again in a few months because they won't look after their health.
