Points System good or bad?

Recommended Posts

In a time when immigration IS a huge factor in every leading political parties debates, justifiably or not. Is it a good idea to introduce a points system to live here?

You do realise that we already have a points-based system (based upon Australia) that is specifically for Non-EU migrants. EU migrants obviously have free movement.

Restricting immigration to highly skilled workers will have two main consequences:

1. The hospitals, care homes and hotels of this country will empty of staff overnight

2. UK graduates will struggle even more to find employment and even more of them will never reach the threshold of £21k beyond which they start to repay their student loans.

The law of unintended consequences. Bet Foggy Farage has never even heard of it.

Er...except when it comes to how they treat the Aboriginal Australians.

Just proves that you can't trust immigrants to integrate with the indigenous population...

Very good point, look at the North and South American continents for other examples of immigrants ruining a country for the indigenous peoples.

Fair enough.

I think we are in danger of having a brain drain in this country. A lot of young skilled people seem to be emigrating. Yet the majority of the people coming in seem to be low skilled migrants.

It makes sense to me to ensure that the people coming in match the jobs available, and that can only be acheived with a much closer watch on immigration, not an open door policy.

Where do you get this idea from? I'd very much like to see this substantiated.

We need to put a stop to that sort of didcrimination then.

Points system needs reform.

Point one, must be able to speak, read and write in english fluently, this point should be compulsory.

Point two, must be qualified to work in a vocation for which we have a skills shortage.

Point three, Must go home when the job or the need for their skills is finished.

Im sure other people could suggest points they would like to added.

It works differently to how you have suggested but :

Point 1 - Yes that is already in place and why the government demands English Language Tests as a requirement for visas.

Point 2 - Yes, this is in place

Point 3 - This is the rule, however people aren't always willing to leave the UK once here. Hence the need for Immigration Enforcement.

We already have a points-based system. The problem is that if you try and tighten up the requirement for points, immigrants will probably forge or buy fake documents to meet the new conditions. The Australian system is all it's cracked up to be either
