We need to do something about immigration!

Recommended Posts

A politicial hopeful in the run-up to the general election in May invited people to a presentation of his policy at a local church hall. The pastor kindly provided biscuits for the event. However, only three people turned up, an immigrant, a teacher and a banker.

While the teacher and the immigrant were busy trying to make sense of the complicated Powerpoint presentation that the politician was using, the banker helped himself to the biscuits, keeping most for himself and quietly slipping three or four into the pocket of the politician.

Noticing that there was just one biscuit left, the teacher began to deliberate on how she might respond. But, just before she was able to offer the remaining biscuit to the immigrant, the politician leaned over and said 'Watch out! That immigrant is after your biscuit!'

So, what do we need to do about immigration? Well, we need to see that it is a theme that is being used by populist politicians to distract us whilst they, together with their friends in the boardrooms of the banks and the multinational corporations, dismantle democracy, cut essential services and enrich themselves.

So what do you suggest, shooting people trying to enter the UK?

Whilst not defending some of your characters, the good people of Page Hall and elsewhere just might have a slightly different viewpoint.

Who are the populist politicians of which you speak? Those who had friends in the banks and boardrooms were the Labour party who let them ruin the economy and avoid paying tax. The Milliband brothers altered their fathers trust fund so they could avoid tax, and they have been involved in a few property fiddles. In Cameron you have a very wealthy man, doesn't need to fiddle, acts in the countries best interests. First one to so since Macmillan.
