medusa
Do you mean how many there are now, or how many there were? Most of them have closed down in the last 20 years.
stpetre
How many pubs on Langsett road I often wondered that, but even if you take the stretch from, say Shalesmoor to Hillsborough corner I don't think it beats Attercliffe Road/Common.
hillsbro
I often wondered that, but even if you take the stretch from, say Shalesmoor to Hillsborough corner I don't think it beats Attercliffe Road/Common.Starting at Shalesmoor will include Infirmary Road, and the 1957 Kelly's Directory lists a total of fifteen pubs (including the Cuthbert Arms - really an off-licence with a cosy little bar at the side): Infirmary Road - odds ..135 Dragon Inn ..165 Gatefield Inn ..227-229 Kelvin Grove Hotel Langsett Road - odds ..115 Bee Hive Inn ..153 Lyceum ..231-233 Hampden View Hotel ..327 Victoria Hotel ..401 Queen's Ground Hotel Infirmary Road - evens ..216 George IV Hotel Langsett Road - evens .. 56-58 Wellington Inn ..164 Cuthbert Bank Hotel ..246 Burgoyne Arms Hotel ..270 Masons' Arms ..296 Cuthbert Arms ..426 Travellers' Rest Enjoy a pint or a half in each, and follow it up with a whisky chaser and you'd be quite merry!. medusa
And if you add into that places like the Wellington Inn (ex Cask and Cutler) on Henry Street within 10 metres of Infirmary Road that's quite a lot of pubs! So few of them are remaining.

hillsbro
Thanks Hillsbro, I married one of the landlord's daughter's from the Lyceum. In 1962 and we now live in Tenerife.Nice pub - here is a link to a photo on the picturesheffield.com site - and a nice place to live now... I remember most of the pubs, but despite having lived nearby from the 1950s to the 1980s I can't for the life of me remember the Hampden View Hotel! ozzyowl77
I have had a drink (or three) in a lot of pubs on Langsett Road over the years. In the interest of public information and accuracy I may need to check the pubs out again from top to bottom. Starting Friday night I think! harvey19
Nice pub - here is a link to a photo on the picturesheffield.com site - and a nice place to live now... I remember most of the pubs, but despite having lived nearby from the 1950s to the 1980s I can't for the life of me remember the Hampden View Hotel! I think that is where my dad used to go to pay his sick club contributions in the 1950s.
