Freedom Of Speech.

For too many people feedom of speech only extends as far as things that they agree with. It's the classic work on authoritarianism that you allude to and it is especially prevalent in the so called progressive left, as that classic work identified so well.

Many years ago I had dealings with some high ranking Sheffield City Council officials. The inverted snobbery that I experienced put the Old Etonian ‘old boy’s club’ to shame.

Especially prevalent on the political and religious right wing too.

Just in the last couple of days two Catholic Bishops have described a BBC Daily Politics interview as a “new bigotry” for its questioning of Tory MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Coburn also asked whether Rees-Mogg had a problem with fellow Conservative MP Ruth Davidson being gay and engaged to be married.

Rees-Mogg replied: “The sacrament of marriage is available to a man and a woman, this is the teaching of the Catholic Church, which I accept.”

She added: “Can you see that that’s a problem if you were to hold a senior position?”

The questions came after fellow Conservative MPs Anna Soubry and Justine Greening raised the point that Rees-Mogg’s views on gay marriage and abortion were incompatible with leading the party.

After many hundreds of years of the Catholic Church telling the world that homosexuals are immoral / degenerate / diseased etc, and gay people being treated as second class citizens; the church are now playing the victim card, because their emissary in parliament Jacob Rees Mogg faced some fairly timid questioning from a journalist on his stance on homosexuality.

Ha ha. I’ve just noticed that something I wrote in the last paragraph above was automatically removed, further supporting my point.

There is no expectation of free speech on a private forum though, and the rules quite clearly tell you that swearing is not allowed since this is 'family friendly'.

Unfortunately the name for a male hen, is also slang for the penis, the 'algorithms' being simple word matches can't tell anything about context and so you have to call it a rooster and not a c0ckerel or it's abreviation.

Nb - for any mods reading, that is NOT masked swearing.

A rooster, also known as a c0ckerel or c0ck, is a male gallinaceous bird, usually a male chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). Mature male chickens less than one year old are called c0ckerels.

Remind us again which party introduced gay marriage?

Freedom of speech is dead in our Country, long live political correctness. The snowflake has won the battle, their idiocy has helped killed off common sense.

OBITUARY: THE SAD PASSING OF COMMON SENSE

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned, but overbearing, regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teenagers suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they had themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer paracetamol, sun lotion or plaster to a pupil, but could not inform the parents when a pupil became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home, but the burglar could sue you for assault because you protected yourself and your own.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realised that he was gone.

I do not know who penned the above, but they sure were on the money.

Is that an attempt to defend JRM's views?

No. It is an observation of myopic opinions. JRM appears to be very honest about his opinions formed around his religious adherence and is equally clear that his opinions matter not a jot in the UK because he is in a minority.

There's something very laudable about a politician who doesn't just tell people what they want to hear, but respects others opinions anyway.

The inconvenient answer to the question is that the Conservatives introduced gay marriage.

I cannot listen to many clips on you tube with regards to free speech and the every growing big brother element within our society.

There are too many rude words, and I find naughty words offensive

I wish these people would stop swearing

I think you mean the irrelevant answer to an irrelevant question, which was an attempt to distract from JRMs bigotry.

Questioning a senior MP on his beliefs is called "new bigotry" by the purveyors of "regular bigotry".
