LeMaquis
A lawyer on Radio 4 this morning said that under the 1989 Act there would be no grounds to prosecute anyone disclosing information about the alleged paedophile network. This was a change from the previous Act. The police have still issued threats despite the change but they're apparently empty threats.

woodmally
The home secretary said she would not expect such an officer to be charged. "Meaning of "official information" 3.1 This means any information, document or article which a Crown servant or a Government contractor has, or has had, in his or her possession by virtue of his or her position as such." Why has the home secretary and the prime minster not given a cast iron statement saying that things related to child abuse are NOT covered by The Official Secrets Act? What exactly are we discussing here. Perhaps some context to this particular debate would be helpful .

The title is so mysterious I thought I had missed something in the news.
LeMaquis
Threats? Can you be more specific please? From memory it involved threats to prosecute, stop pensions, etc. The Official Secrets Act is not minor legislation.
