Are the British prudish about sex?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't be sacked for buying something from Ebay, booking a holiday or using SF during lunch break. I would be sacked for looking at porn.

As Cyclone says, there is an acceptable use policy. It comes up on my screen every morning when I log in. I have to tick to indicate I have read and understood it.

Why is buying something from Ebay, booking a holiday or using SF acceptable, but looking at porn which is also legal, unacceptable?

I don't think we can know objectively whether the British are more or less prudish about sex than other nationalities. To some extent it depends what you mean by 'prudish', then you have to work out a valid way of measuring it.

I read somewhere that some staggering proportion of Irish married men had never seen their wives naked, but that was a while ago. Things may have changed.

Judging by the amount of sexting which apparently goes on between younger people in this country, it seems they are not particularly prudish, no...

Because somebody with the authority wrote that into a document which forms part of the contract of employment.

As to why they did it, probably because buying something on ebay isn't a private thing, where-as looking at porn is. It's entirely inappropriate in an office environment.

Men need sex women need love sex is part and parcel of life and without none of us would be hear would we?

But not generally during the working day.

Because we expect higher standards of behaviour from people in positions of authority than we do from the average employee?

I would be unhappy to learn that one of my child's teachers had been accessing pornography at lunchtime...wouldn't you?
