Chris_Sleeps
Whether they eat or not is up to them. Not if they've had their money taken away and are unable to buy food. But if they sign an agreement of things they need to do in order to receive a benefit and fail to live up to the terms of that agreement, of course they should not be paid. Why on earth should they? They should be paid because taking the last bit of income off of the unemployed, leaving them with no means to buy food, or heat, is unnecesarily harsh. We don't punish the most hardened criminals by denying them food - but you think it fine to punish turning up late at the JobCentre in this way. Secondly, it's not a contract. A contract implies that both parties enter into the agreement with the same degree of negotiation. The state can dictate its terms, and thus shouldn't be as brutal in its dealings with people. Do you think there are any circumstances in which sanctioning would be reasonable? Such as failure to turn up at all to sign on, or not applying for any jobs, or purposely trying to mess up job interviews?

unbeliever
There's nothing to stop those on benefits cutting down on the beer, fags and sky tv a bit so that they can put something aside in case they get sanctioned. It's not wise to function dependent on a week to week income stream, no matter what your circumstances.
GLASGOWOODS
why would anyone purposely mess up job interviews?? Coerced into attending interviews by the job-centre. Believe me, i regularly sit on an interview panel, and some of the people who attend don't dress appropriately, or seem in the least bit interested in the job. Cyclone
Get a job then if you dont want to work. Jeez. That doesn't even make sense. ---------- Post added 13-07-2015 at 20:36 ---------- There's nothing to stop those on benefits cutting down on the beer, fags and sky tv a bit so that they can put something aside in case they get sanctioned. It's not wise to function dependent on a week to week income stream, no matter what your circumstances. Just how much money do you think someone living on benefits has to spend on sky, beer and cigarettes? There are online calculators that will let you have a play, create a scenario, see how much they get. Then compare it to your own expenditure and see if they really are living the life of riley.
