El Cid
We listen to science about climate change and other things, but yet when it come to religion, the Government thinks God exists. Why is this? Shouldnt anyone doing their Gods work, be committed as insane, and those teaching Gods word be sanctioned for grooming? How long before the UK becomes an atheist country? Anna B
I fear the UK will not become an athiest country if it gives up Christianity. Nature abhors a vacuum, and there are plenty of willing sects, cults and religions who will be only too delighted to fill the space. Be careful what you wish for... loraward
Who do you think's changing the climate, if not God? Yes he once made it rain just to kill everyone, now he intends to cook us all.
flamingjimmy
We listen to science about climate change and other things, but yet when it come to religion, the Government thinks God exists. Why is this?Firstly, no the government does not listen to science on many matters, including climate change. They're starting to come around to the scientific consensus on climate change but there's still a lot of resistance. Another example would be the repeated refusal of the government to listen to their scientific advisers on drug policy. Shouldnt anyone doing their Gods work, be committed as insane, and those teaching Gods word be sanctioned for grooming? No, absolutely not. How long before the UK becomes an atheist country?Speaking as an atheist, hopefully never. With luck one day we'll be a truly secular country, but state enforced atheism, absolutely not, I'd fight that as hard as I'd fight any religion trying to enforce their ideology. The irony is that if someone claimed that God told them to do something they will likley be committed as insane and the church will be pushing for them to be locked up. jfish1936
I was very cognisant of the difference; I was reading Richard Dawkins, while the TV was playing (Australian ex=PM) Malcolm Fraser's funeral. Lots of "God", which I didn't believe. BTW, Malcolm was a real good bloke!

You're assuming rather a lot aren't you? Anyone who believes in God is insane? There are an awful lot of people who disagree with you, and I don't think you can claim them as nutters unless you've met them all and had a conversation with them. Cyclone
We listen to science about climate change and other things, but yet when it come to religion, the Government thinks God exists. Why is this? Does the 'government' act as if it believes that Christianity is real, or does it just act to try and show respect to religion?

I wasn't aware that 'we' (assuming you mean the Government) listen to science.
