Bonzo77
http://rt.com/uk/245213-royal-staff-strike-castle/ Many of the Queens staff are paid as little as £14,000 a year and are also on zero hours contracts. One of the richest women in the world, feeding on our tax money, and she won't even pay her staff a living wage?!

One of the richest women in the world, feeding on our tax money, and she won't even pay her staff a living wage?! And this surprises you? They probably think that the honour of serving them should be sufficient, wanting a decent wage is a bloody cheek. Still the staff are fortunate in one way, a while back this would be treason and the Tower would be their fate.

harvey19
Near to an election the union is flexing its muscles by hoping to get votes for the Labour party whose leader was voted in by the union vote. We will hear of many more downtrodden workers and rich bankers from the unions and Labour party in the next few weeks. The attached news item misses out detailing who gets paid what. harvey19
Good. The more truth we hear, the better. Exactly, so let us have a full breakdown of roles, salaries and hours plus benefits for staff in such news articles and then we can make informed comments. VIEW2BUY
The upkeep and preservation costs of The Palace etc: should be made public, as costs today for such ICONIC BUILDINGS needs to be controlled and monitored. Personal maid services/wardrobe assitants/Ladies in waiting and all extra staff for Lizzie and other Royal family members should be revealed fully if paid for from the public tax system. PRIVACY RULES NO MORE MADAM!!! Edited March 31, 2015 by VIEW2BUY

One of the richest women in the world, feeding on our tax money, and she won't even pay her staff a living wage?! What do you mean "as little" as £14000. Its around 1300 more a year than the NMW. Many of the staff at the palace are nothing more than glorified waiters, cleaners, housekeepers, retail, catering and grounds staff. Why would you expect them to earn anything more than their equivalent outside of the palace. I am completely unsurprised that many are on zero hours. I would assume that many of the staff will simply not be required full time. A state banquet or ambassador's reception is not going to every single day of the week and thus there will be peaks and troughs in requirements. Seems like another RT conspiracy theory. Somehow just because they work for the Queen they are somehow supposed to be treated differently. Staff are staff. A silver service waiter for the Royals will be the same as any other silver service waiter in any other restaurant or hotel. The tour staff and shop assistants will hardly need to be paid any premium over their counterparts down the road. This constant guff about the non existant "Living Wage" is becoming tiresome. What the hell is a bloody living wage. People "live" on anything from £12k a year to £200k+ a year. Their "lifestyle" and ability to purchase things is adjusted up and down accordingly. If you have a little money you buy and have less. If you have a lot of money you have more and spend more. Its how people have lived for centuries. Union have invented this concept all on their own. Its ridiculous. Non story alert. Edited March 31, 2015 by ECCOnoob
