Chris_Sleeps
What else do they also receive though? Free plane travel, cars, luxury railway carriages. They used to have a yacht too, but had to give that up.

Bonzo77
What else do they also receive though? Free accommodation, fee food etc. It all adds up. I dont agree with the levels of pay offered by the royal households but I dont think its as simple as comparing your basic rate with theirs. They get a free lunch........... Actually, that's not even free when you factor the additional work that they're expected to carry out for free!

Actually, that's not even free when you factor the additional work that they're expected to carry out for free! Yes a free lunch can be anything up to £10 per day according to the HMRC. That's an additional £2,600 a year on top of wages. The extra work is not compulsory and if there is any discrimination based on this an employee can make a claim. Penistone999
http://rt.com/uk/245213-royal-staff-strike-castle/ Many of the Queens staff are paid as little as £14,000 a year and are also on zero hours contracts. One of the richest women in the world, feeding on our tax money, and she won't even pay her staff a living wage?! Her staff freely signed these contracts at the start of their employment , so its not the Queen`s fault. no one held a gun to their heads and forced them to sign them. Like anyone else, if the people who work for the Queen arnt happy with the terms of their employment ,they are free to find alternative employment. No one is forcing them to work there. Yeah, everyone should just keep their gob shut and stop moaning about the way people are treated.
Chris_Sleeps
They knew what terms and conditions they were agreeing too when they signed their contract. You're not quite correct. The Public and Commercial Services Union says its members are poorly paid and are voting on whether to stop peforming voluntary aspects of their work, such as giving guided tours [...] Forty-five wardens, who also do first aid and language interpretation on a voluntary basis, will be balloted by their union between today and 14 April, with action planned from the end of April should they vote in favour. mjw47
So the royals have poorly paid staff providing them with additional labour for nothing? David Cameron recently gave a speech condemning the ' Something for nothing culture ', I hadn't realised he was talking about the queen! https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fyougov.co.uk%2Fnews%2F2012%2F06%2F25%2Fsomething-nothing-culture%2F&ei=eRQdVebdJoffU5_egKgI&usg=AFQjCNERWQfS0CtulUyKIyB0-TzE4QqmIw
