Owethemnowt
Dore village ...... now there's a dump. Porches parked just anywhere. Kids with cello cases and armed with books. Mothers talking to their kids and every other word is either 'please' or 'thank you.' I've never seen anything like it.
The Joker
Dore village ...... now there's a dump. Porches parked just anywhere. Wow, just like in Page Hall! EDIT: Oh, you meant Porsches ? Well, we have all sorts of cars parked on the double yellow lines on this side of town. Even the Roma gypsies are going upmarket, driving newish Skodas (which are actually the last generation Audi bin wagons with a cheap-ass badge) Edited April 9, 2015 by The Joker It's spelt Porsche, not Porch ! Penistone999
Definately Third World, in one of the world's richest countries. Disgraceful really. places like Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe are still feeling sorry for themselves and looking for sympathy after the pits were shut down. If they stoped living in the past and got off their backsides and retrained maybe life would be better in these places instead of being the land that time forgot. They cannot go on blaming the pit closures , it was 30 years ago.

No wonder they're angry. What has been done to help them? Where is the investment, the infrastructure? An area needs money to get back on its feet. The people cannot do it all by themselves when they have nothing to start with. The sad thing is, there are more and more areas like this, that have been all but abandoned by the government, because they don't know what to do with them. They have had tonnes of investment in infrastructure round that way - new roads, industrial estates near by - just not a thwacking great coal mine. And it's what, 30 mins from Sheffield or Barnsley, Rotherham, and close to the M1. But they still wallow in their own misery. Other villages have cracked on. I think they invested the entire budget building a bonfire to burn Thatcher's image after she died, although this doesn't seem to have attracted the inward investment they had hoped for. On the plus side they probably didn't lose much in the Hatton Garden raid.

Indeed, the initial deprivation etc can be understood, until investment was put in. You can understand it taking a while to get back on your feet, but its been far to long now and the town really should be back on its feet. Harrystottle
Just tell them it isn't 1985 any more. But that would mean their bad news mission of keeping Margret Thatcher and the Evil Tories (not a bad name for a group, that) as their lead story might have to go, so they won't. They could always replace it with The Evil Tory Cuts Killed My Hamster, though.
