This is Britain- Lord Janner won't face court

Recommended Posts

No charges are to be brought against Lord Jenner.

Aged 86 and suffering from dementia he gets off scot free, uncharged from allegations that go back 25 years.

All the evidence in the world that any prosecution service needs yet the public interest would not be served. Codswallop of course as there is compelling evidence, victims who need justice and a population that expects no one to be above the law.

He could even have been tried in his absence. That's what the police wanted but the CPS knows best. Of course.

Jenner has Alzheimer's. He forgets. He forgot all about it when he stood up in the House of Commons and refuted the allegations years ago. Oh, and those 'health problems' arose when the Police came to call. In the same month he visited the House of Commons 12 times. Functioning pretty normally it seems.

Quite clear then that the law doesn't apply to the establishment figures with connections. It was bad enough when Saville got away with it but clearly nothing has been learned since.

Those who have been prosecuted [ or wrongly had to answer such charges] didn't have friends in the corridors of power.

A publicist, an actor, a DJ ................ means days in court. But a politician remains above the law.

This is Britain.

There are rules which determine if a defendant is fit to stand trial, they probably just followed the rules that apply to everyone.

“The CPS has concluded that Lord Greville Janner should not be prosecuted because of the severity of his dementia which means he is not fit to take part in any proceedings, there is no treatment for his condition, and there is no current or future risk of offending.”

The CPS statement said: “Had the previous decisions been to prosecute, as they should have been, Lord Janner would have had the opportunity to challenge the evidence and defend himself through the trial process, with a jury ultimately deciding on his guilt or innocence some years ago.”

I remember Harold Wilson's close friend, lord Ganex (yes, he of the raincoats) was "done" for (I think it's it was) embezzlement.

He was sent to prison, but was released after a very short time, on "compassionate grounds", when he developed Alzheimers / dementia.

Almost as soon as those prison gates closed, with him on the outside of them, he miraculously recovered.

The cynic in me awaits a similar recovery by Jenner.
