Why is there so much animosity towards cyclists in Sheffield?

Wow......the opposition to my suggestion of a 2p per day levy for cyclist that use the roads is astounding.

500,000 Cyclists that commute to work may not add to traffic pollution (apart from sweat) but they do add to congestion.

General taxation which, among other things, includes VED revenue!!

<1 %, but the VED is based on emissions, so applying it to cyclists would yield nothing anyway.

Tobacco revenue is around £2.6bn, around 0.5% of income - should they be the only ones who can use the NHS? Both the NHS and the transport network are national assets paid for by general taxation. Both smoking and cars are a burden inflicted by choice on those national assets.

Because cyclists already pay for the roads and if they didn't cycle, they'd be in a car ADDING to the congestion.

But if you buy road tax then no one can say you dont have as many rights as people who do.

Surely thats worth it?

Right;

There's no such thing as road tax.

Paying Vehicle Excise Duty does not give car drivers any right to use the road.

If Vehicles Excise Duty was applied to bikes, it wouldn't apply anyway as there are no emissions..

Rights are free, no need to buy them.

This.

...and if those 500,000 riders decided to drive cars, instead, what do you think would happen to congestion? Would it become more or less?
