smog
Just done some calculations on turnout for Sheffield seats. Hallam had one of the highest in the country at 75%, although only in Scotland was 80% beaten. One or two seats had under 50% In the 4 Labour held Sheffield seats turnout was 60% or less. If Abstain was on the ballot paper, and that was recorded as the vote of all those who didn’t vote, Abstain would have won all 4 with healthy majorities. In the Hallam constituency, just held by LibDem, Abstain would have come 3rd. What conclusions should we draw from this? It would be inflammatory to say that if Abstain won, that constituency should have no MP for that Parliament - or maybe that would encourage more folks into the polling booths? What would encourage more into the booths is believing that a) their votes count, and b) it would make a difference who was in power.

That argument annoys me so much. 17 million people didn't bother to vote. That made a difference. A bad one.

As they say in the lottery, you have to be in it to win it. If you don't vote because you THINK it wont make a different you cant start crying when your choice fails to win. Those 17 million non votes could have completely changed the result. Even half of those could have been a complete game changer. They didn't and the result is what it is. There should be an opportunity to abstain on the ballot paper. A vote of no confidence or some such. And if that gets the majority vote there should be some dire consequences for the politicians / government. And everyone should have to vote. Everyone should take an interest in politics, it affects everything. And if they did, it might make the politicians more accountable and the quality go up. master jedi
Could i ask here what people think the future for Sheffield public services will be now there is a majority Conservative government, or does this question warrant a new post?.
Douglas J
Could i ask here what people think the future for Sheffield public services will be now there is a majority Conservative government, or does this question warrant a new post?. Well it's not going to be good. For those who can afford it, they can expect to pay more out of their own pockets and for those who can't ... Mister M
So will I. Socialists who pray for our economy to bomb because Labour are not in power are the main reason why investors do not invest in South Yorkshire. Load of crap.

evil woman
That argument annoys me so much. 17 million people didn't bother to vote. That made a difference. A bad one. I certainly could. If they had all voted Libdem or UKIP we could have wiped Labour out in Sheffield and Rotherham. ---------- Post added 10-05-2015 at 16:20 ---------- Load of crap. So how's Sevenstones doing at the moment.
