Berberis
So where a chain of multiple agents is involved (as can often be the case in holidays), do you expect all of them to personally inspect the property? Or more importantly to have specialists inspect it? Or should they just request the appropriate certificate to prove that it's been inspected once, by the final company that is letting it? This is not how the likes of TC operate. They do not use agents but rather deal with hotels and chains directly. Some are exclusive to that operator. How do you suggest that they check the qualifications of Greek gas fitters and plumbers? And what makes you think that they weren't fully qualified under Greek law? Are you trying to insinuate there is no formally recognised qualification for Greek gas fitters in Greece and that a company such as TC who has hundreds of employees within the country cannot check if they are correct and legal? discodown
Is it tragic that the children died? Of course it is Is it the companies fault? No. Do you know why? Because it wasn't their hotel, there were other tour operators using that hotel, any one of them could have got that room and rented it out. It just happened that TC did and someone got the terrible luck. That is life. They can sue the hotel owners if they want, sue the maintenance team if they want but TC? Nope and blaming them is just misguided

To be honest I'm not sure how you read that from Cyclone's post...he more or less said the opposite...
sgtkate
If hoops and checklists are what it takes to prevent just one death, its worth it, unless you consider your time being more important that a persons life that is. So before you invite anyone into your house, whether a friend or a contractor, you carry out a full gas and electricity review do you? Thomas Cook is not responsible here as long as they checked the paperwork required by law held by the hotel. If that was in place and verified then what else do you think they should have done? It's a terrible tragedy and I'm won't be a flippant about as it as some are being. I can understand the anger towards TC but it seems misplaced in my opinion. martin6
The problem wasn't with Thomas cook being to blame, its the fact that they were compensated and made whole.
