Morts
I visited Regent Court once to see my Dads auntie Ruth and uncle Stan. That must have been 50 years ago. I'm struggling to remember their surname- it will no doubt hit me sometime. They must have passed away a long time ago though.
Allen
There were certainly tennis courts at the back until the 1950s or a bit later. I was an unofficial "ball boy" (I used to flog the balls at school for 3d each). Happy New Year zakes! Certainly later than the 50's......I played tennis there as a teenager in the late sixties. Anybody remember the manager, name of Murray, during the 50's/early 60's. Smart looking geezer, little moustache. And also the two staff, one was named Barry, I believe, they used to stoke the boilers, empty the trash etc. The family Hillsdon on the top floor, had a daughter, Naomi. The Wright's, had a fruit stall in the market, and a daughter called Mary who drove a big American shooting brake. The Ender's, on the 3rd floor. Mr Ender had a little motor repair business at the back in one of the garages, two daughters. And of course, the tennis playing Bishop's, three daughters. Christine Spurr, ground floor. And another chick who went to America and became a celebrity interior designer in Los Angeles. Wish I could remember HER name. "Mr Ender".... I thought it was "Hender" ? Anyway, spelling apart.....he specialised in buying and selling ex military vehicles..The Minnie being his most popular. I presume they were ex staff cars? I bought an ex Royal Navy minibus from him and it served me well for camping as all the rear seats folded away into the floor leaving room for an air bed and sleeping bag. hillsbro
"Mr Ender".... I thought it was "Hender"?...Yes, Arthur Hender (1916-2010). He was a friend of my uncle and used to service his car. The two daughters were Pauline and Janet. Edited January 3, 2016 by hillsbro
alexander874
Roger Taylor never lived on Regent Court but played in tennis matches for the away team . In my 72 years on the building the roof has never been open but I have photographs of children playing up there in the late thirties and a swimming pool was originally planned but never built . I am in touch with Pauline Hender who lives in Sheffield and Janet has lived in the Isle of Mann most of her adult life . Mr Murray was manager of the Sheffield Gaumont I used to play with his son . Texas
So, Mr Murray had also been a manager of the 'Gaumont' at one time. Or was it at the same time? He was an acquaintance of Maurice Chevelier, or so I was told. Verrrry interesting.
alexander874
Regent Court is 80 years old next year and we are planning an event next autumn including a garden party and photo exhibition and we would like to contact as many ex residents as possible . forgeman
Although I Didn't live in the flats I did go to school with a lad called Stephen Turley who live on the top floor end house looking towards Langsett road. It's over fifty years ago and lost touch when we ended up at different schools.

Yorkshire 53
There was a very smart lad lived there in the late 60's early 70's called Robert Crowfoot; third level I think. Anyone heard of him since ?
