Britain now on EU debt list.

Recommended Posts

Actually we're doing better than Germany, France and Italy - and nothing like Greece.

We may be having a short bounce and be ahead of other countries in terms of growth, but we're not doing well. Far from it.

Britain has now been put on an EU debt list, along with Spain, Portugal and Ireland, for not repaying its debts. It says Britain has not made enough progress in cutting its deficit, and now needs overseeing from Brussels, in order to help correct 'imbalances.'

David Cameron is said to be incandescent with rage.

He should think himself lucky that it came out after the election. So much for our 'brilliant economic recovery....'

Well this has backfired on you hasn't it Anna?

This 'brilliant economic recovery....' has led us to perform better than both France and Germany (our two economic rivals in Europe), this is despite is being at greater risk from stagnation due to our heavier reliance on the finance industry.

Are you really a Tory?

Surely doing well is relative?

If we are performing better than our two closest economic rivals then surely we are doing well?

This is the Daily Mail exaggerating, I assume everybody knows that, but I could be wrong. The EU is obliged to keep tabs on governments' spending and deficits and reports on it every year. Every year the Tories seize on it to ensure everybody knows how terrible the EU is. Simple fact is that it was decided, unanimously, a long time ago to have this system of checks and balances in place.

Non-story made into a story just to tar the EU.
