Nijinsky
You make some very good points Ian. When I or family members go out for the day it`s always Derbyshire or North Notts. Not West/North Yorkshire. ---------- Post added 22-05-2015 at 19:40 ---------- Loiner, you`re more than welcome to post what you like on the thread. Folk take certain forums far too seriously. Caz1
I always say i am a Sheffielder first, then a Yorkshire lass, then English, then British and at a push next European.
mjw47
Maybe because they're a fair bit nearer for a day trip? Correct, I live in the south of Sheffield and can see Derbyshire hills from where I'm typing this post without getting out of the chair, it is rare that I would consider going across town to reach countryside when it's on my doorstep. Also, it allows us to weigh up which bit of land to 'acquire' for Yorkshire next. We didn't get where we are today without a little 'acquiring'. Totally agree - a little bit of push west from Ingleton to Morecambe Bay and we'll be able to walk coast to coast without leaving Yorkshire

But why not? With your ambitious plan Isle of Man here we come!
Phanerothyme
Think about it, being part of it is holding us back. ---------- Post added 21-05-2015 at 22:35 ---------- We`re better off out of Yorkshire altogether. I demand an in/out referendum. ---------- Post added 23-05-2015 at 00:07 ---------- The River Sheaf was the ancient boundary between Mercia Kingdom of the Midlands and Northumbria in the north and remained the border between Derbyshire and Yorkshire into the 20th century. I guess that means the south of Sheffield has its roots in the North Midlands, the North side is in Yorkshire. Sheffield has always felt liminal to me, in so many ways.
