william Posted March 11, 2004 Share Posted March 11, 2004 has anyone any info on dating cutlery.I found an old spoon whilst metal detecting it is marked Fleming Sheffield Eng.also on it are what looks like "taunis silver".The plating has worn off and it is copper coloured.The area may have been a campsite previous to a battle fought in Antrim town N. ireland in 1798. little spiky Posted March 12, 2004 Share Posted March 12, 2004 Try asking the Hawley Collection, or ARCUS (the archaeological unit at the university). I don't know their e-mail off hand, but I do know that you should be able to find it through the Sheffield university website. Try putting Hawley Collection into the search option. (They're an independent museum specialising in tools and tools for making tools, as used in Sheffield during the industrial period.
