Alcoblog
Personally, I think that it wouldn't make a fat lot of difference if the 'perp' was wearing a helmet or not whilst attempting to escape the police on a motorbike. If he/she comes off, they're gonna hurt themselves. It's up to them if they want to increase the chances of maxillofacial surgery/self-induced trepanning on handlebars. If it was me (which it wouldn't) I'd wear a helmet, nonchelontly sticking a finger (or two) up at the Darwin Awards and the posthumous fame and fortune associated with it. There again, I'm not stupid. Of course, there is the risk of accident with innocent parties ... that's the only problem I can see. This should be up to police discretion ... they're the highly trained professionals after all. If they feel safe in seeing how fast a 'perps' motorbike can go through a dry-stone wall in the middle of nowhere, then that's all well and good so far as I'm concerned. If the 'perp' finds himself a little scared about not knowing how to ride a bike properly, then the simple thing to do would just to pull over, use the side-stand and face the consequences. I'm sure the owner of the (most probably) stolen bike would prefer this more favourable all-round outcome scenario too. Bikes that must not be chased under any circumstances (helmet or not ... Brink's-Mat or sweet shop) due to their utter beauty and risk of damage would include; Most Harley Davidsons All Confederates (the R131 Fighter should get a police car/bike/helicopter escort to safety) Vast proportion of Ducatis Brough Superiors Some Moto Guzzis Yamaha V-Max Custom bikes with Harley engines Dodge Tomahawk Suzuki Hayabusa MZ 250's
Olive
Personally, I think that it wouldn't make a fat lot of difference if the 'perp' was wearing a helmet or not whilst attempting to escape the police on a motorbike. I think the helmet bit is something of a red herring. My mates with the drug dealing neighbour, were told that the police wouldn't stop the guy on his moped, full stop. Apparently there's just too much risk, helmet or no helmet. Edited June 1, 2015 by Olive
monkey104
How does "blaming the culprits for their own decisions" and not looking for excuses grab you? Or am I having a failure of common sense again? Wow! Calm down chap its a discussion.
