Vegas1
That might be what I was thinking about. ---------- Post added 09-06-2015 at 07:29 ---------- How do you know that? You overheard two nurses (or unqualified support staff maybe) speculating that he was drunk... And he was behaving like he was (which happens to be how someone hyperglycaemic might behave). Wouldnt the smell of alcohol on him perhaps have been a clue?
Daven
Wouldnt the smell of alcohol on him perhaps have been a clue? Not always since the smell of alcohol on the breath can sometimes be mistaken for ketotic breath which a diabetic may have if they are in a ketoacidotic condition (hyperglycaemia) - and vice versa. A quick fingerprick blood sugar test is the best solution for diagnosis but not always easy if the person is agitated. Then, of course, the individual may be both drunk and ketoacidotic.................. Edited June 9, 2015 by Daven
geared
Who, despite his being an aresehole of the first degree, admittedly... still may, or may not have had a head injury, and/or been hypoglycaemic. He was drunk. Swearing at nurses and abusing them. He had been there a while. If he was possible hypoglycaemic or possible head injury he wouldn't have been left that long. They require immediate attention as very serious complications will manifest if they are not seen to.
diksey
Last year while doing some DIY I broke my middle finger, didn't fancy sitting in A&E for hours, so I taped one of the OH's emery boards to it as a splint. Good as new after about 4 weeks.
Cyclone
Wouldnt the smell of alcohol on him perhaps have been a clue? Not really, did you look at the link to the paramedic training?
cytine
Chazndave. I'm with you as you were actually there, I tend to believe your version rather than the know it all keyboard warriors who were not there and get all their information (and believe every word) from Google. Do they really believe that the medical staff will not have checked for other possible reasons? This drunk, abusive and offensive man should have been refused treatment and escort from the hospital. All staff have a duty of care to everyone who turns up in A&E and no one can be refused treatment . Everything I have posted has been pulled from the knowledge and experience I have gained from being a Registered Nurse in hospitals for almost 34 years - no googling necessary. Stuff "Duty of Care" everyone has a duty to behave in an acceptable manner. Bad/offensive behaviour should not be tolerated by anyone especially medical staff.
