Cyclone
Bully for you ! What about the other 10% ? If we made transport a big bigger it would be 99% who'd fit, but what about the other 1%. If we made it bigger again it would now be but what about the 0.1%. At which point are the average sized unhappy to keep paying higher fares for more space they don't need? ---------- Post added 11-06-2015 at 07:36 ---------- That is great, except that it excludes this 'public' thing, doesn't it? When has public ever meant that something will be suitable for 100% of people?
vwkittie
That is great, except that it excludes this 'public' thing, doesn't it? Problem is, if buses all had enough legroom to accommodate people up to 6'8 and enough luggage room for Bigthumb's alpaca, there'd be far less seats, so more people would have to stand. Which is worse overall, one 6'8 person standing and no alpaca, or 10 people of varying heights standing around with 20 alpaca and 30 people left waiting for the next bus? TheRocketMan
Transport for the public should be fit for the public. Most of the public travel with goods. Many of them have legs. Yet on most public transport, space is allocated based upon some crazy formula that seemingly imagines only a person's head partakes in a journey. How do we convince public transport operators to provide transport fit for the public. Transport that accommodates people with legs, shopping & luggage. When accessing public transport do you ever have any of the following on your person? A. Legs. B. Shopping. C. Luggage. Do you think there should be space for Legs, Shopping and Luggage? Maybe they should give everyone Limo's
tzijlstra
When has public ever meant that something will be suitable for 100% of people? Odd that, so you are basically stating that we should have alterations to allow for people in wheel chairs and with prams, but ignore the needs of anybody taller than X? odd society. Cyclone
You can't make a seat that is perfectly comfortable for a 4"9' woman and also Giant Haystacks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Haystacks And if every seat was big enough for him, you'd need to pay twice the current fare for transport as each vehicle would now seat 50% of it's previous capacity.
