Who knows, one things for sure. Those who weren't on top of how their phone works won't be hit for data charges costing many hundreds of pounds anymore.

It'll also be cheaper for all those on holiday in Benidorm to ring home whilst their having their egg and chips and complain that it's full of foreigners.

The point is that they will charge more for tariffs to get the money back so nobody will be better off.

Usual EU waste of time policy.

Wow, how good is that!

Very. It shows you don't have to be in the EU to get the reductions.

You'll not say that if you've been charged hundreds and even in some occasions thousands of pounds on your mobile phone bill.

It's fantastic isn't it, these EU politicians they just seem to want to put people first, ahead of big corporations. Even the people who aren't currently in the EU.

It also shows that if you aren't in the EU but in the free trade agreement, you will have to do what the EU wants anyway.

But they're not. People who don't use much data abroad will have to pay for those who do by an increase in bills.

You presented it as a benefit of being in the EU but it isn't.

When you drill down into it. Most will be worse off and the charges don't only apply to EU members.

Anyway, there's no reason our own government couldn't ensure that overseas charges are the same as EU members as well.

It will be up to us.

So our own government was happy to allow mobile phone networks to profit, by sometimes obscene amounts of money, just because some people didn't know exactly how their mobile phones work!

Good job for the EU eh?

If they charge us we charge them. They'll give us the same deal whatever trade deal they have as a member state. And we'll be able to avoid the daft free movement policy as well. That's if it hasn't collapsed by then.

This applies to all negotiations. They need us more than we need them.

The point is that they won't impose anything on us they don't want imposing on themselves. All trade deals will be the same when we exit.

Not only would they be daft to have some sort of trade war their own businesses won't allow it. I'm sure BMW wouldn't want a 10% hike in prices for their cars sold in the UK.

Ignorance of how a phone works isnt really a defence.

I agree, it's no a defence for the mobile phone operators fleecing some of their customers for obscene amounts of money.

Three cheers for the EU I say, after me. Hip hip - Hooray!

Where do you get the idea that 'they' need 'us' far more than we need them? 'They' need to stand firm to assure other EU states don't leave upon a referendum. 'They' are 'our' biggest export partner. 'Our' biggest businesses are pretty much universally against a them and us debate, wanting them to remain us.

Try and substantiate what you are saying, bcause so far all I hear you say is that the relatively overpriced UK mobile contracts are going to go up even more due to this deal, hav you got evidence for that?

I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not to be honest.

Sounds okay on the face of it, but the mobile phone companies were already in heavy competition which has seen prices heading steadily downward for as long as I can remember.

Surely either the prices of other services will now drop more slowly or the tech will advance more slowly.

Anyway, it seems rather beside the point. Maybe the EU did a good thing, more likely not, but in either event it hardly justifies membership as it would have been quite achievable without it.
