I never thought being white, Yorkshire born, English would mean I am politically incorrect in my own country.

not sure why those things mean you are politically incorrect.

i'm white, english and lincolnshire born and i'm not politically incorrect. maybe it's a yorkshire thing...

We are building now on farmland. Lots of farmland.

we could build on brownfield sites but it's cheaper to build on green field sites and the building firms want to maximise their own profits.

they didn't propose a living wage, it's just a slightly higher minumum wage and at the same time made the independent comission which set the minumum wage pointless and placed the setting of the floor in wages at the whim of a politician

Whatever the figures are, I was making the point it's funny how europe never solved this problem.

The truth is any central Uk government can create employment policy. We don't need an unelected government in Belgium to do that!

Fine. But we can't reform Brussels. If we could I would be all for that.

We have a far greater chance of reforming the EU inside than out. Don't blame the EU for our lack of influence, blame the inept MEPs and governments who wanted the UK to be on the fringes of the UK.

When can you change anything from the fringes.

Maybe the EU didn't solve the problem because it's not some socialist superstate that many believe it to be?

Ask yourselves this:

[*]An unelected council making decisions about us every day that we can't vetoe

This crops up over and over and it's just plain wrong.

The unelected council you mention are the Eurocrats, which do make decisions, but ALL of their decisions have to be agreed by the MEP's before they are implemented. In the exact same way Civil Servants draft legislation that our own MP's vote on.

The lack of influence is down to two things, 1 the undemocratic voting processes of the european council 2 the EU hates us

Why should the EU even have opportunity to pass down laws? we can make our own!

1) most things in the council rely on a majority vote thats hardly undemocratic

2) no they don't

We are always on the side of the minority due to how the votes are constructed.

We always lose when we try and vote against the popular vote....so much for democracy.

So once more we are back to the evil foreigner argument. It seems like some of the Brexit supporters can't go more than a couple of pages on SF without reverting back to type.

Why are foreigners evil? i never said that. Love europe and the rest of the world. DIslike the EU.

The problem is you can't discriminate between a criticism of an institution and racism / xenophobia. It's OK as many other people cannot see the difference either!

1 The European Council has no legislative power in and of itself, all it can do is propose laws. The European Parliament has legislative power.

2 I'd ask you to prove that, but you can't, so I'm going to give that nonsensical claim all the attention it merits: none :D

Why should the EU even have opportunity to pass down laws?
The EU is a club of nations. What's the point of a club without rules? None. How can the club work without rules? It can't.

we can make our own!
And we sure do. 3 tons of it. You looked at the UK's tax legislation recently?

havent we lost 72 votes out of 72?
Nope, we've lost 56 out of 2592. And we won 2466 out of 2592 :P Edited by L00b
