Tomjames
Why is free trade this big positive idea, when David Cameron looks up to China and their booming economy, they have average trade tariffs of over 5% and the importation of luxury goods often taxed at 20% Huge markets. China has over a billion people.
El Cid
Huge markets. China has over a billion people. Seems like a good way to tax things, let people keep more of their salaries, and have import taxes. In China the income tax amounts to only 3.5% of GDP, compared to our total tax amounts to 39% of GDP

Also, free trade prevents wars.

The WTO should set trade taxes on certain goods, no need for wars, China does ok.

Really, if that was the case there wouldn't be any wars now or in the past.
Shef1985
Really, if that was the case there wouldn't be any wars now or in the past. He didn't claim free trade prevents all wars. Oh well, why let things like a logical fallacy get in the way of spouting your ignorance? Out has shifted its focus to immigration. Let's see who does the scaremongering now. Of course, if Out says it, it's true, to a Brexiter. Only remain do the lying.
L00b
The WTO should set trade taxes on certain goodsLike the EU does for VAT over certain goods? Desirable indeed, in an ideal world, but....in view of the antis' vociferations about the EU/VAT rates, container-sized can of worms Oh well, why let things like a logical fallacy get in the way of spouting your ignorance?Logical fallacies and circular arguments are Smithy sutty's speciality, I'd have thought you'd be wise to that by now, Shef Edited May 25, 2016 by L00b

MobileB
Seems like a good way to tax things, let people keep more of their salaries, and have import taxes. In China the income tax amounts to only 3.5% of GDP, compared to our total tax amounts to 39% of GDP Average wage in China is £5800 - at this rate in the UK the tax would be zero for most people! The minimum wage in China varies per region but the highest rate is £209 per month - £2508 per annum. In fairness, both these rates have tripled over the past 14 years. That compares with around a 46% increase in the UK average wage over the same period to the current £26,000.
