Agreed, but it's an example of what is being proposed, namely a collective defence rather than an amalgamation of the the EU countries defences, which is what some Brexit supporters seem to be suggesting. What's it for? Did NATO collapse and nobody told me? NATO is very much an American driven alliance. Give the possibility of a complete nutbag in charge over there I don't think a different organisation is a bad idea. So you of the opinion that the USA will always be happy to pay the lions share of the costs related to defending Europe? Maybe it's wise to have contingencies? Maybe it's wise to have contingencies? Depends. We're stronger with the USA as an ally than without. If the USA were to withdraw from NATO, surely that would be the time to enact alternatives.
