I was going to say, I'm hardly a tory lover, but as far as I am aware (prepares to be corrected!) the stats are gathered in the same way for the Tories as they were under the coalition and as they were under Labour. They either all fudged the figures or none of them did.

It has been proven that one particular JobCentre did indeed have a sanctions league table, did indeed tell it's staff to sanction more people and did indeed discipline staff for not sanciotning enough. There is a copy of the letter sent to staff signed by the director of that JobCentre who has admitted sending it and that the contents were accurate.

However, this does not mean that the sanctions league table was created by the government or that it means anything more than just competition between Jobcentres. But that is itself is pretty terrible that someone senior in DWP thought it was a good idea to have a competition on which person you can take cash away from? And even if it was just that one Jobcentre doing this, you have to question why they had stats on where they sat in terms of numbers sanctioned in the first place. Why collate this data if it's not to be used in some way.

Which Jobcentre? And I agree if it is true it's more than terrible. You can't just sanction people without just cause i.e. the decision maker can prove in law that the customer has not done something that they were supposed to do to satisfy the conditions for receipt of their benefit. Yes our offices have targets but this isn't one of them! DWPs targets are published in the Annual Report and Accounts

Like all large concerns DWP collects MI from it's various computer systems some of which are target related and some that are not. The MI is used for a lot of different reasons such as identifying staff errors which may indicate a training need. So in the case of sanctions - there is information showing the numbers allowed/disallowed, no of decisions overturned at review or appeal etc etc. If staff are referring things for a decision incorrectly this is where that would be identified and measures taken to rectify.

Just done!

Go on Tory boy - tell me you don't believe it's real and made up by the Daily Mirror.

Its the same one that's already been trotted out and refuted in this thread.

And if you are going to stoop to insults then there's little point talking with you further.

Whilst I had seen this at work I wasn't aware it had been published but I think it answers the questions. Shows mistakes were made and matter resolved.

Do you see Tory boy as an insult?

I only ask because a lot of people on this forum use the word lefty in a pejorative manner whereas I see it as a compliment.

It depends entirely on the context in how it was employed really.
