andyofborg
no one else seems to have picked up on this.... http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jun/20/red-devil-saves-team-mate-parachute-fails-to-open-airshow-whitehaven-cumbria but to have the presence of mind to do this in the situation is pretty awesome

Absolutely brilliant. tbh i do imagine they train for such things, and know that a parachute can hold 2, etc but still it worked like a dream

cgksheff
Some poor reporting going on again. The parachutists were initiating a 'stack' manoeuvre which requires the upper man to link to the lower canopy by a leg or legs in the control lines. While doing this, the lower chute wrapped round the upper man's legs. Being a known risk, for which procedures are rehearsed, the upper man maintained his leg grip on the lower chute (one or two extra turns round his legs) and they made a safe, controlled landing in the planned target. Excellent example of disciplined response to an event as a result of good training.
