National pride, or shame?

Recommended Posts

So you'd be fine with a Swastika flying over a Bavarian government house in respect for their fallen in WW2?

The Swastika would be fine as it wasnt a German invention. The Nazis stole it, hijacked it. Using it now could be a useful way to retake it and give it back its original meaning.

really? is it not time people got over the past? it didnt represent a dark time, it is part of a time Americas history, its no more linked to racism than cotton fields?

Do you mean,if you destroy all the confederate flags because they represent racism, destroy the cotton fields that bred racism?

I think that the original meaning of the Swastika, has forever become obscured by the events during the Nazi's region of terror, such is the size of their actions.

Some crank kid murders people and so now people want to ban a flag ...... really

Its not just about this though. To some black americans its a symbol or racism and intolerance.

Stupid or more politely inappropriate thread title. The Confederate flag has nothing to do with "national pride" It has different meanings to different people in the southern states of the US.

Doesn't mean much to people north of the Mason-Dixon line. You sometimes see the flag attached to the radiators of the big 18 wheeler rigs in various states outside of the old confederacy. Just indicates that the driver is a good old boy from the south

False, not to mention you don't know everyone in the US let alone a "good old boy from the South". Confederate stickers, flags and decals are sold all over the US. But, now that a ban is about to be enforced and volunteered..possibly, how does this ride with you personally on the 1st amendment and freedom of expression? Why are "God Hates Faggots" posters allowed as freedom of expression at a funeral, and a flag resigned to history?

The thing is the confederate flag was not the flag of the confederate states. It only became popular (to a point) after the KKK started using it. The flag of the confederate states was different. The flag they are banning is or was the Army of Northern Virginias battle flag.

Sorry not sure of your point. Are you saying that what it represents now is diluted because of its initial representation as a battle flag?

It's got nothing to do with us. Let the yanks sort it out amongst themselves.

Deep.

The confederate flag was not the official flag of the confederacy, it was the battle flag of the army of Virginia. Nothing to do with racism at all. But you do goodies carry on with your hand wringing as per. LOL.

When you say "do goodies", are you talking about Mitt Romney, former Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor who called it: "a symbol of racial hatred"?
