Is the holiday abroad on its last legs due to terrorism .

Recommended Posts

The point is, you are still highly unlikely to die as a result of terrorist activity on holiday - as someone else pointed out, you're much more likely to be killed in a crash driving to the airport.

The long and the short of it is that the OP is exaggerating the risk greatly.

So it is still as safe as it always has been to travel abroad.

Thanks for your advice.

If there was a world war on then one would be advised not to travel abroad. However some bombings and shootings abroad - which is after all a very big place, quite a lot bigger than the UK - shouldn't put one off a bit of international travel, in the same way that the odd traffic accident shouldn't put one off crossing the road.

A lot of people think that there is a Worldwide war on against Isis at the moment.

And you?

If I had booked a holiday to Tunisia (I wouldn't as it doesn't interest me) and I was to travel in the next few weeks I would still go, incidents like this could happen anywhere, its like saying you wouldn't travel to North Yorkshire after 7/7.

It's by no means worldwide and it'd be less innaccurate to say it's IS versus rest of world rather than vice versa.

I agree with you. Indeed, the beaches of Sousse are probably among the safest in the world right now; the odds of such an event recurring there in the near future must be close to zero.

It depends what happens after this,if nothing happens, then it will fade into memory and go down as maybe a Tunisian punishment for their part in the Arab spring.Their tourist numbers will be hit,but people will holiday abroad in other places, maybe Arab/African countries see a reduction of visitors as people may be scared off,but on the basis of 'you never think it will happen to you' or 'they can't attack everywhere',the holiday abroad will still be as popular as ever.

If however there are follow up attacks in other countries, then more and more will be looking for so called safer options, either at home or abroad.Egypt has seen sporadic happenings over the years, but as far as I can see, many people still visit from the west,so I can't see the package tour taking a huge loss of people visiting, unless somewhere turns into an actual war zone.
