stpetre
I see that the publisher Ian Allan (he of trainspotting book etc) has passed away one day short of his 93rd birthday.
Jeffrey Shaw
Sad. Unlike the clapped-out old buses/rains, he's probably not gone to be broken-up for spares, mind. Re David and Charles (whoever they were) still alive?

Re David and Charles (whoever they were) still alive? David & Charles was founded by David St John Thomas, who died last year and Charles Hatfield, who died in 1996. The company still exists as part of the F & W Media Group, although I don't think they publish railway and canal books anymore. ---------- Post added 30-06-2015 at 20:47 ---------- I see that the publisher Ian Allan (he of trainspotting book etc) has passed away one day short of his 93rd birthday. I find it interesting that he published his first book (ABC of Southern Locomotives) when he was 21 years old in 1943! A quick check of my booklists suggests that my house contains almost 580 books published by his company .
metalman
Sad to hear he's died, and David St John Thomas as well - I've got plenty of books published by both these people (but admittedly nowhere near as many as the poster above!).
