alchresearch
Like it or not with regard to the UK London is the centre of the universe. Manchester Airport a large international airport with 2 runways already has spare capacity yet airlines are not banging on the door of Manchester to start new routes. Maybe you're not aware of the massive expansion plans of Manchester or the increased flights and routes? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-32963790 http://www.routesonline.com/news/tagged/94/manchester-airport/

Of the new routes listed, I heard a rumour about the MAN-LAX route a while ago and thought maybe American Airlines or United Airlines, so while any new route is good for the region, just 2 flights a week and no doubt for the summer season only vs 9 daily from London. It certainly isn't aimed at the business traveller like myself, but fine if you're off on your package summer hols to the west coast.
dutch
I suggest to turn the moor into a runway and refurbish the market into a little airport.

I've used it plenty for flights to Asia via Dubai. Cathay Pacific also used to fly direct to Hong Kong, used that plenty, and I think that is still available. Flew to Philladelphia last year from there on US Airways. I was listening to the radio this morning, a few locals from Kent suggesting that Manston apt should be re-opened and expanded to take international flights....mmmm, living under the flight path, not sure they've thought it through.... Blackbeard
Sadly all Robin Hood Airport offers are mainly bucket and spade or migrant workers flights. http://www.robinhoodairport.com/arrivals-departures/ Compare that with Manchester. http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/flight-information/flight-arrivals/ Edited July 1, 2015 by Blackbeard
TheRocketMan
Anyone who complains/protests about the third runway at Gatwick should be banned from flying from Gatwick or Heathrow! Edited July 1, 2015 by TheRocketMan

RickyM
I'm bored of this........Sheffield Airport closed due to competition and the runway being too short. An Aeroplane couldn't land safely. There is no need for an airport here as Doncaster, Leeds and Manchester have one.

Well no, that's wrong, the bigger aircraft were unable to take off/land due to length, nothing to do with landing safely.
dutch
little poem for the airport Sheffield is flying, high above the sky. It goes further and further to show the world who is the biggest and the best. All the big companies started coming and Sheffield became the centre of the universe. Everyday more planes came and people ware racing to get on them. What would Sheffield be without its airport? It is not fair and oh so sad. I guess it has just missed the flight. And the train as well.
