crookedspire
If you were to take a photo of a building any type any area in Sheffield, which one would you say represents Sheffield and why?
Eater Sundae
I suppose it depends what it's for. For me it's probably the glass houses in the Botanical Gardens, but for someone outside Sheffield who doesn't know them, they wouldn't shout "Sheffield". The same with Bishop's House, or the Old Queen's Head. Park Hill? Meadowhall? Forgemasters? I heard someone on the radio, yesterday, talking about Steel City House (the old, white, GPO building at the bottom end of West Street), that's an impressive building, in my opinion. How about a view combining the Town Hall and the Winter Gardens along with the Peace Gardens (I don't know if it is practical to get a single good photo with all three in together). City Hall? Cutlers Hall? Hillsborough or Bramall Lane? Edit. I've only just noticed the " and why" of the original post. In that case, probably the Cutlers Hall, for what it represents. But a lot of my other suggestions still get a mention. The Botanical Gardens Glass Houses as they represent the wonderful parks we have. Forgemasters as a link to the past that is still important today. Edited July 4, 2015 by Eater Sundae
TheRocketMan
Park Hill........a great example of a city stuck in its past represented by a building that was listed by a council that is about as forward thinking as the voters that keep them in jobs. TheRocketMan
Councils don't list buildings. Haha......i stand corrected. Sheffield City Council requested that English Heritage list the building so that they seek a £2m grant and private financial investment.

Sheffield needs to find a unique identity and modern architecture could be key. Something like 'The Skyscraper Valley'

Nagel
The Town Hall. If you spend the time to walk around it and look inside you'll understand why it's Grade 1 listed. Yes, you can go inside any time it's open, but not upstairs except on one of the regular free tours. Previously Hyde Park flats were THE Sheffield building, but they demolished the central block and reclad the other blocks so it's nothing special now. Back in the day it looked monumental and towered over Park Hill - http://myparkhill.tumblr.com/image/108926440030
