Am I still allowed to question climate change?

That really is lame journalism.... filtering through the obvious rubbish and unsubstantiated allegations all they appear to have to complain about him is that he is driven about in a 1.8ltr car, (incidentally from a company with a good record) and that he flies to do business. :hihi:

As one of the commentators puts it:

Who needs science to establish whether global warming is happening when we have commentards on the Daily Express website? (Or even their lame journalism.)

So he flies a lot - what do you expect the head of a major international institution to do? And where have you seen him calling to ban your lovely sunday roasts?

Of course it would be

Well, well, It looks like someone (the OOPC) else is having probelms with their calculations ...

Niño4

The Niño4 SST anomaly index is an indicator of western tropical Pacific El Niño conditions. It is calculated with SSTs in the box 160°E - 150°W, 5°S - 5°N.

This index is temporarily offline (as of 14 June 2010) due to a discovered error in its calculation. Please check back soon.

So check back soon, but not too soon as it's been offline for 2 and a half months now...

Looks like they're not getting the figures they want...

I am sure that is fascinating for people involved in research on nino4, but what does it have to do with the topic?

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's latest report on the Climate is unequivocal in response to the thread question:

A comprehensive review of key climate indicators confirms the world is warming and the past decade was the warmest on record. More than 300 scientists from 48 countries analyzed data on 37 climate indicators, including sea ice, glaciers and air temperatures. A more detailed review of 10 of these indicators, selected because they are clearly and directly related to surface temperatures, all tell the same story: global warming is undeniable.

For example, the surface air temperature record is compiled from weather stations around the world, and analyses of those temperatures from four different institutions show an unmistakable upward trend across the globe. But even without those measurements, nine other major indicators of climate change agree: the earth

is growing warmer and has been for more than three decades.

A warmer climate means higher sea level, humidity and temperatures in the air and ocean. A warmer climate also means less snow cover, melting Arctic sea ice and

shrinking glaciers.

Followup?,

But the press is having a field day with the NOAA report, especially since the now-discredited United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report has already been exposed as biased and filled with errors. The IPCC report no longer serves as a useful tool in persuading people to accept lower living standards in an attempt to slow “climate change” by reducing the relatively miniscule emissions of greenhouse gases. So this new tool could prove valuable to the “cap-and-traders” like BP and Goldman Sachs.

Let's look at what the OOPC says about itself:-

About OOPC

The panel's mandate

The Ocean Observations Panel for Climate (OOPC) is a scientific expert advisory group charged with making recommendations for a sustained global ocean observing system for climate in support of the goals of its sponsors. This includes recommendations for phased implementation. The Panel also aids in the development of strategies for evaluation and evolution of the system and of its recommendations, and supports global ocean observing activities by interested parties through liaison and advocacy for the agreed observing plans.

The OOPC is sponsored by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). These in turn are programmes that depend on the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Council for Science (ICSU), and for the two observing systems, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Hmm, so nothing to do with climate change then; stroll on troll boy, unless you think Sea Surface Temperature anomolies have nothing to do with climate either...

So, in your opinion, every part of the planet is heating up? As i am sure you know, the answer to that is a resounding "No".

Ergo, there is no such thing as global warming. There is partial warming in some places, cooling in others - hence climate change, not global warming.

That seems like a pedantic argument.

The fact the stratosphere is cooling is evidence of the greenhouse effect on global warming below the stratosphere.

Global warming is generally considered to be a compound term, not simply the idea that everywhere globally is warming without exception:

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation

I asked what do the Nino4 calculations have to do with the discussion on global warming? Not a lot, in fact it forms no part of the calculations of past temperatures that show a rise and I doubt very much those calculations are factored in to the various models of climate change, at least not in any way that would give cause to doubt their conclusions.

That means if just one spot is warming and the rest staying the same we have global warming?
