Greybeard
I have to tip my hat to Phil Jones, head of the CRU at UEA, who has temporarily stepped down from his position, pending the findings of an independant investigation into the climategate data. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/dec/01/climate-change-scientist-steps-down That is about the least he could do. I see in that article Lord Stern is again poking his nose into the debate advocating yet more taxation. It's about time we had an audit of these 'green' taxes...how much has been raised and where has it been spent. The Copenhagen conference should be about population control. Reducing the population is the only sure way of reducing the impact of climate change, whatever the cause.

convert
The 'real question' is who's going to do the 'independant' investigation ! I agree, but it is good to see that the MSM are starting to give a little more coverage on this. It's also interesting to see the article in the Independant re the Tory backlash towards 'Call me Dave' on the green issue. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/cameron-hit-by-tory-backlash-on-environment-1832208.html

I agree, now that it's started to make it into the MSM, the true believers will lose ground hand over fist (nothing to do with rising sea levels though). There are other data sets to look at... http://www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/GW_Part2_GlobalTempMeasure.htm "According to the global data sets, the Earth has warmed about 0.3 – 0.4 degrees in the last 30 years. This is less than the measurement error of temperature recording devices."
I1L2T3
I strongly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Undergrowth-Science-Delusion-Self-Deception-Frailty/dp/0198604351/ref=sr_1_1/278-3336597-2742207?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259790488&sr=8-1 Accounts of how scientists can whip themselves into a frenzy of collective delusion. convert
Climategate isn't going away. Even the BBc have now been forced into giving a voice to both sides of the debate. I did a Google search yesterday for Climategate; which turned up around 18 million hits. Today that very same search turns up 223 million. The word is spreading. The Church of the AGW is falling around their ears. Now is the time for proper scientific investigation, but not into the dead end path of plant food gas; it's time for technological innovation, research into how we can live with climate change, what we can do to help those people most at risk. Thats a cracking article. http://www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/GW_Part2_GlobalTempMeasure_files/image044.jpg http://www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/GW_Part2_GlobalTempMeasure_files/image045.jpg http://www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/GW_Part2_GlobalTempMeasure_files/image046.jpg And the conclusion of the article in question ! As can be seen from the above figures, the two cycles were virtually identical, and yet the IPCC says the models can explain the early 1900s cycle with natural forcings, but anthropogenic CO2 is needed for the later cycle! There appears to be a problem with the models. There is an overall upwards net trend in the cycles due to the fact that the earth has been warming since the Little Ice Age: “The coldest time was during the 16th and 17th Centuries. By 1850 the climate began to warm.” [http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/earth/climate/little_ice_age.html]
