JIbbo
Not very helpful to them though if we fear Govt. inaction. Wildcat. Some examples of Human induced global warming..... Sorry climate change as its no known as both cold and warm can be influenced by CO2 :-) From the “weather is not climate” department, it’s currently -20°C in Nome, Alaska.. while it was +3°C in 1969 ! In Nome it was also +2°C on the 16th of December 1945 ! http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/PAOM/2009/12/19/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/PAOM/1950/12/16/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

Picking a data record for a single day and a single location is a pointless way to try to refute global warming. The people there and observing the effects have no doubts: http://beringsea.blogspot.com/

And shouldn't the ice in the polar regions be melting rapidly and dissapearing ?
Wildcat
But what was causing global warming previously and thus shouldn't it be 'averagely' warmer now according to AGW models where the ENTIRE globes temperatures rise ? And shouldn't the ice in the polar regions be melting rapidly and dissapearing ? Polar ice is disappearing. It is only the greenhouse effect that can explain the warming of the stratosphere and the cooling of the troposphere. Evidence from the other thread of ice melting: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/22/east-antarctic-ice-sheet-nasa http://planetearth.nerc.ac.uk/news/story.aspx?id=541 And on the Troposphere\Stratosphere issue: http://www.youtube.com/user/greenman3610#p/u/22/_Sf_UIQYc20 Edited December 20, 2009 by Wildcat
andyofborg
There is no proof that man is repsonsible for climate change there is enough circumstantial evidence to suggest that we are. of course, if we're not responsible and climate change is just part of the natural climate cycle then we can do nothing about it and it means that mankind is pretty much doomed. hope is always a good thing
Greybeard
of course, if we're not responsible and climate change is just part of the natural climate cycle then we can do nothing about it and it means that mankind is pretty much doomed. Only some of mankind is doomed. even the worst case scenario doesn't suggest the whole planet will become uninhabitable - just certain parts of it. Unless of course the fighting over the good bits goes nuclear

Indeed. Predictions from climate scientits for the UK seem to be anywhere between an Alaska-type climate and a pleasant Med-type climate. I wish they could make up their minds. Fareast
As the shivering masses of Europe and East coast America, chop up their Chippendale tables and burn their limousines, in order to get a little warmth........as parents sell their children and parents into slavery to raise a few coppers for a bag of coal........as millions have to spend their Christmas-tide in Mexborough, Milton Keynes or Catcliffe, as Heathrow is buried under snow, I bet there is only ONE thing on their minds.......i.e. The dangers of Global Warming ! How disastrous if the average temperature of the world surged by a couple of degrees over the next 100 years ! How will we combat this grave menace ? Who knows ? All we can do is pray and throw another family heirloom or a passer-by on the bonfire. Imagine the horror of grapes growing in Wigan ! Or bathing off the Yorkshire coast in October ! Governments must spend billions of pounds NOW to finance research, world conferences and outreach advisors and co-ordinators, before our poor old planet sinks into a fiery hell !
