despritdan
At last, a politician has found the courage to speak out against a backward cultural practice that not only condemns many children to a miserable existence of profound and multiple disability but also costs the NHS a fortune. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3162989/The-brave-woman-dares-shatter-toxic-taboo.html Well done Baroness Flather; what a shame your white British colleagues lack the courage or moral fibre to do the same. sgtkate
So based on your logic you should ban people who have genetic disabilities from having kids then too? Because the odds of them having children with genetic conditions is far, far higher than cousins. Have you considered that sometimes cousins do actually fall for each other? What would you do then? Ban someone from having a life together because they *may* have a child with a disability? Just to add, I highly dislike the culture of marrying within your own family because it's "tradition" but you can't ban marriage between cousins only for Pakistanis can you? It would have to be everyone. Edited July 16, 2015 by sgtkate
francypants
It's perfectly legal for first cousins to marry however odd it may seem. I've always thought that it isn't quite right, the connection is too close. Could you imagine marrying one of your cousins ? I couldn't !!

I've always thought that it isn't quite right, the connection is too close. Could you imagine marrying one of your cousins ? I couldn't !! The European Royalty were a prime example of cousins marrying so as to keep the family wealth in the family. This lead to some off spring with severe disability's , In some cases these people were locked away so as to not embarrass the Royal blood line. In poorer society's that practice this near cousin marriage any disabilities that occur often fall onto all ready over stretched health services. Both Royalty and others who marry cousins do it for the same reason.
