JimW
Hey everyone, go easy on me, I'm a newbie! So if I've out this in the wrong forum then mods olease delete or move. Im in Sheffield for the next month through a university course and I'm just looking for opinions on where the best places are to go to socialise and chat to people in town! Realise that these days most people are glued to their phone screens (the irony of me posting on a forum) but was wondering if there's any good pubs or bars around with a good friendly crowd? I'm situated just off of west St so know I'm in the bar and club area but would rather strike up a few friends before diving head first into the club scene! Also what's the royal standard like these days? A mate of mine went to uni here a couple of years ago and we used to frequent it!
taxman
Are you into any particular scene or type of pub? Lager drinking holes, cocktail bars, student pubs or real ale places? There is plenty of choice and quite a few crossovers (eg Wick at Both Ends for cocktails and real/craft ale). What are your preferences?
Jo-Gee
The Washington pub is pretty cool- a bit too cool at times. The student scene is at Ecclesall Road, Broomhill, Crookes, West Street, Division Street. Enjoy
Jan0310
Ecclesall Road is a lively area full of shops, cafes, pubs etc. Normally looks very busy on a weekend.
JimW
Hey all! Thanks for the kind replies So I'm settled in to where I'm staying but my course mates don't seem to be the socialising type (ah well never mind) so I'm thinking of posting where I'm heading over the next few days and if anyone fancies showing a newb the ropes that'd be cool. At some point this week I'm gonna try out the sports bar by the forum? If anyone fancies a few games of pool let me know. In response to the question asking what scene I'm into, any really - though predominantly rock and dance music if we're taking going "out" out. But I'd kinda wanna at least go with some people if I'm going "out" out
Cfc13
Maybe you can show up at Bloo88 or Revolucion de Cuba on salsa nights (Wednesday and thursday) THere are free salsa classes and gives you a good excuse to talk to people. The crowd tend to be friendly too.
philyyy
I'll go for a pint tomorrow if you're around in the day, but busy after that.
Eten Cafe
We will be hosting business networking on Thursday from 5.30 to 7ish. If we're honest it tends to turn into a few folks drinking and chatting. Feel free to pop in. Beside Sheffield Cathedral.
JimW
I'll go for a pint tomorrow if you're around in the day, but busy after that. Thank you for the offer! Unfortunately I don't finish until 5pm! ---------- Post added 29-07-2015 at 00:17 ---------- We will be hosting business networking on Thursday from 5.30 to 7ish. Would I need to bring anything or prepare anything? ---------- Post added 29-07-2015 at 00:18 ---------- Maybe you can show up at Bloo88 or Revolucion de Cuba on salsa nights (Wednesday and thursday) THere are free salsa classes and gives you a good excuse to talk to people. Eten Cafe
The networking is just sitting or standing around and chatting. No format to it.
