Sky joins google in leeds it basin

Recommended Posts

Because our canal basin is an empty hulk?

Is it? Is it really? Oh right. I had better mention that to Nabarro, Lloyds Banking Group, ANT Marketing, Carillion, Servlec, White Rose, Hilton, Metco, Celsian, Capita and Parexel who are currently occupying buildings in and around said canal basin .

Yes what a ghost town it is.

is a call centre regarded as it jobs in sheffield then.

Who cares?

The point is that Sky already have a large operation in Sheffield. We also have multitude of other IT companies here and have for years. BT has a significant presence, including networking/cabling an infrastructure planning. PlusNet was founded here and maintains their Head Office here.

We have one of only two Insight Enterprises UK offices, Sumo Digtal, Transaction Network Services, HS Direct, Zoo Digital, Simcyp, Highlander CS, Linbrooke, Fretwell Downing are all here. Plus two very large data centres for HSBC and Manatowoc.

Hardly lacking in IT industry are we.

i notice that sky is moving into the leeds canal basin alongside google and bringing a further 400 it jobs to leeds. why do they pick leeds when our canal basin is an empty hulk.

Sky has had an office in Leeds for ages.

It's in the process of opening an office in Sheffield though, they've hired about 20 - 30 IT staff in the last few months to work in temporary space at the Electric Works (Sky Bet technically).

Because we lack the required infrastructure, this includes a fast road to Manchester, own local airport that is accessible, a city environment that can attract global talent and offer them something extra (over the Wetherspoons and pub-meals).

We also suffer from a very outdated offering in office space, particular in this medium/large range.

They would appear to disagree, they are rapidly ramping up the new Sky Bet team here.

The core Sky team will stay in Leeds where they've had a satellite office for years (the main office is in London of course).

HSBC is more than just data centre, Griffin house has about a thousand IT staff, it's the IT headquarters (management headquarters in Canary Wharf).

aren't they making rather a lot of the staff at griffin house redundant. hopefully a few of them might get jobs with google or sky in leeds.
