madmanmoon12
This picture is Sheffield I think judging by the bus colour and livery. All I can see is JOHN TONKS or JOHN TOMAS and S. A WARD on the sign and it looks late 60's/early 70's. I cant make out the bus number / destination. Does anyone know where /what road it is? madmanmoon12
Thanks, I found saw that too. Looking at that almost mountain behind hard to think that is the city centre. Looks nothing like that on Google Earth. Believable?
Siren
Reminds me of the slag heap that used to be in the Maltravers Rd/bottom of Manor Lane area of the manor. It was from the Nunnery Colliery. There is a picture of it on "Britain from Above"
Hopman
Cricket Inn Road taken from the roundabout looking Eastwards. The 90 degree bend is now redundant as the main road goes up the hill cutting the corner.
Eater Sundae
Doesn't help with the photo, but it appears that John Tonks became part of Turton Tonks, Burton Street (?) near Neepsend Lane area. Edit. Ah, now been identified I see.

Falls
Hi, As previously noted, its a view at the end of Cricket Inn Road and the waste heap of Nunnery pit. The factory-like building on the left may be part of the old Corporation Abattoir? The buildings at the end of the road was the Stead works, well known for their range of screw drivers and other tools. S. A. Ward were a machine shop/fitting company and did a lot of manufacturing/assembly/repair work for other local steel & engineering works. Although they had a Cricket Inn Road address, the works stood-back from the road. This would be to the right - off the picture - in line with the three blokes holding up (or possibly being held-up) by the street lamp post. (Perhaps patrons of the CRICKET INN itself? ) This would be on the left and off the picture. I don't know anything about John Tonks and Company but they could have been close-by S.A.Ward. There were different kinds of small businesses/works in that general area. All a long time ago. chrishall
The sign on the left says 'Urban Clearway' could that refer to The Parkway that started round the corner on Manor Lane then?
darylslinn
Wow what a great photo of the old Nunnery heaps, it really shows how high they were.
