It would be due to the competion from Weatherspoons directly opposite, plus 3 other pubs within about 50 yards. When I lived on Minto Rd in the late seventies I used to love popping in the Mason's and the Ball, when I went out locally. They were both good pubs and always busy. I used to DJ in the riverside 2014/ till September 2015 and we used to be busier than weatherspoons. We had to turn coustomers away because we was full! It was a really enjoyable place too work till the landlord got too big for his boots and changed. I left 5 months later he left and it's not been same..
