The politicians of today are an insult to you and me

I'm not sure I understand.

We still have a deficit and as I understand it the plan is to increase public spending by a rate higher than inflation, but lower than GDP growth over this parliament. That way revenue should increase slightly faster than spending and the deficit should gradually disappear. It's a pretty soft landing as far as getting the deficit in hand goes.

Once the deficit is gone, toward the end of this parliament or early in the next, we should hopefully get a small surplus. I expect that surplus to be split between paying down the total debt and increasing public spending more quickly to improve the quality of public services.

Does that answer your question?

Please read the rest of the thread. Or at least posts 42 and 58.

Who do you hold responsible for changes to financial regulation and regulators which allowed and encouraged the banks to become so highly leveraged if not the government at the time it occurred?

Why should everyone believe what other people state on a thread?

I wouldn't expect everyone to believe what has been expressed in these details, but some will. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/ramesh-patel/growth-cameron-austerity_b_2007552.html

Both left wing sources and both out of date by 2 to 3 years. The C4 one stated "a policy that could hurt jobs and growth". Given that we've now had 9 consecutive quarters of economic growth, and record levels of employment (albeit with a slight blip in the last couple of months stats), how do you think that prediction has panned out?

Is Channel 4 news Fact check left wing? It certainly isn't part of the unholy alliance of the Sun/ Mail /Express....What makes you think Channel 4 news is left wing?

Kind of. We know the government is cutting spending. But whats interesting is spending has been going up steadily year on year.

However spending as a percentage of gdp is decreasing year on year.

Spending is increasing but not at a rate it should. Bringing down the deficit is a priority for this government. If they get it right it might work.

What needs to happen post 2020 is spending.

The time of the sources isn't the issue, it was the alternative views and reference to blame I wanted to draw attention to, particularly the article from the person who supposedly is an economist and conservative.

I'm glad to hear the economy is recovering, I hope it continues to do so, but not at the cost of prolonged suffering so many are having to endure due to this governments harsh austerity measures.

This isn't harsh austerity. Go to Greece Spain etc for harsh austerity. What we are experiencing here is reality. Yes it hurts, but the overexpansion of the public sector and the ridiculous benefits increase over many many years under the Blair brown regime needs to be addressed. no point in putting your head in the sand any longer. Things need to be put right again. Back to balance. No more stupid arrogance of claiming to have put an end to boom and bust. No more bribing the electorate with borrowed money their children and grandchildren have to repay.

Some people think socialists and lefties are just misguided, head in the clouds types. I feel they are much more insidious than that and borderline evil in their thinking.

That Stalin was nice fellow though.

How come? ..

Because you arent neutral in anything you say. It comes from a misguided left wing ideology.

If I said I was neutral would you accept that? I suspect not. I don't claim to be neutral. You do.

But they aren't genuinely helping them. They are using them to their own ends. There are no socialist states where they poor are better off than the 'poor' under britains capitalist system.
